MEET THE ARTIST

CHESCA ATHAS

Sydney-based artist Chesca Athas flirts with hyper-realism and injects a playful candour into her drawings, breathing life into the ordinary through her realism works on paper.

With a blend of precision and relevance, she captures the essence of everyday objects and commercial tableau influenced by pop culture and contemporary trends. Chesca invites the viewers into her world to rediscover the beauty in the commonplace...

My late grandpa was a practicing artist, and he had a studio in his garage. Myself and my two sisters would get dropped to his house for the weekend and come home with all sorts of creations - from colour filled canvases to weird clay sculptures.

"I see the world as a visually stimulating playground."

Chesca Athas

Sitting down alone in my drawing studio felt much more suited to my personality and my creative process. It offers an intimate space where I can explore my inspirations at my own pace, which I find incredibly rewarding.

My favourite part of the process is getting to know the object, my pencil visits every square millimeter of the object, so I get to know it for all of its beautiful detail. And to be frank it just gets my mind away from anything serious to focus on the small beauties of life.
