Artist Collab
ADAM LESTER
With burning exuberance and verve, Australian artist Adam Lester pares back the layers connecting person and place like one peels an orange: wholly and methodically. Capturing the everyday with a spirit of inquiry, nothing evades his lens - from the hustle and bustle to the humdrum, using the brush to lace his work with tints of wry wit and sensibility.
Fusing everything from divine elements, pop culture motifs, aviation and naval vessels, Adam’s bold and vibrant palette treads a tightrope between fictional and factual. Each of his subjects are painted with a whirl of colour that suggests movement and the fleeting transience of life; the locations within the frame imbued with a thick warm nostalgia associated with memories of travel.
A creative practice necessitated by an urge to ‘make sense of the cultural noise’, his work has been exhibited extensively throughout the country, including Parliament House and Artbank. Trips to Greece and Asia too, as well as forays up in Northern NSW, have forged the impressionable blueprint for the artist’s imaginative takes on daily life and the modern contemporary landscape.
