SAM PAULETTO

Sam Pauletto is a calligrapher and illustrator based in Sydney on Gadigal Country. His work ranges from traditional copperplate and refined calligraphic hands to modern brushwork and watercolour graphic illustration. Growing up in Canberra to Italian Australian parents, Sam was inspired by Italianate designs from his family histories and by the raw beauty of the Bush Capital. Blending elements of classicism with romanticism to create a fresh approach to calligraphic design, Sam’s work is characterised by a sensitive and sophisticated use of colour, shape and a contemporary approach to traditional hand lettering.

“When Lesleigh introduced me to the grotto girl, I knew I wanted to go in a Greco-Roman direction, while also referencing the flora and fauna found along the Australian coastline.”
